In the Fall of 2007, Nestlé Purina PetCare Canada, created a special fund to support initiatives in the pet community, celebrate the joy of pet ownership and enrich the pet experience through education, programming and advocacy. This fund has become the Purina PetCare Legacy™.
"People are always telling us about their relationships with cats and dogs in their homes. In most households pets are considered members of the family, and have an important place in our hearts," said Karen Kuwahara, President of Nestlé Purina PetCare Canada. "At Purina, we quite simply live by a promise to pet owners - Your Pet, Our Passion. Our passion for pets plays an important role in everything we do, and inspired us to create the Purina PetCare Legacy."
The Purina PetCare Legacy™ is a natural extension of some of Purina Canada's current programs including the Purina Animal Hall of Fame ™, which celebrates pets who have helped save a human life, along with a number of service animal training programs which help train dogs to provide assistance to people in need.
"I've been fortunate to meet people who have credited their lives to the heroic acts of their cats and dogs. Through our work with service animals, many people have been given not only companionship, but a greater independence and freedom than they might otherwise have known," remarked Mary Siemiesz, the new Executive Director of the Purina PetCare Legacy™. "The Purina PetCare Legacy was born from the special role our pets play everyday, and helps us to do more for the pet community - helping more pet lovers and their four legged friends."
